With it, I turned the gaudy beat-up hideous 1000w amplifier...
Into this slightly less gaudy hideous 1000w amplifier!
Subaru makes amps now. And hondas. Subaru now makes Hondas.
Now I need to make my enclosure look decent. I might actually build the sub into the spare tire compartment or something so I still have cargo space.

You may have issues with heat dissipation now. It looks like the cooling fins are under the metal cover you plastidipped. Since the plastidip is a good insulator, it will hold the heat in and the fins aren't going to work as well. If your amp is a class D you might be able to get away with it though.

just about to say this. Seconded. Almost all car audio is class D though, but it can still get hot if it is pushing near peak power. With one sub though, it probably wont.

It looks like most multi channel amps are still class AB, but I do see more and more multichannel class D.

Loud Civic now with a sub? Transformation is almost complete.

Loud civic? I welded in the resonator and muffler from a Chevy Sonic RS. That thing is whisper-quiet now, except for my noisy transmission which is likely getting replaced next week at the latest.

This is an older amp, it had a large amount of MOSFETs screwed into the heatsink that makes up 99% of the body. I'm driving it nowhere near peak power, so I'm not terribly worried about overheating, and the now-black part doesn't cover up a ton of the heatsink anyways.

I'm surprised there isn't more in the way of class T in car audio. Thinking about it now though, a class D amp with a sampling frequency high enough to reproduce higher frequency sounds would start getting into the area where it might interfere with other electronics if it isn't isolated and filtered well enough, especially if it is switching that much power. Say you want a 20KHz sound reproduction, you would have to sample it at a bare minimum of 40KHz to even have something that passes as relating to the original signal. you would probably be up around 200-500KHz of high power PWM for a class D. (just spitballing figures) That is close to the speed of a lot of communication buses in the vehicle. HS CAN is 500Kbaud a lot of the time. The high slew rates required to switch that much power that fast would probably induce quite a bit of EMF into the vehicle depending on what precautions are taken. Hmm, I should get back to work.
